A detailed list of interesting events has been put together by Wicklow County Council’s new Biodiversity Officer, Dr Laura Kehoe, to celebrate Biodiversity Week which runs from Friday, May 19th to Sunday, May 28th 2023.
The line-up includes a morning of Sustainable Gardening at Ballyraine Campus, Arklow; a field session on marine ecology in Wicklow harbour; hedge-bothering at Kindlestown woods; a nourishing forest school for kids in Blessington; learning about what we are doing for the elusive Barn Owl in Baltinglass, and chats about a world on fire with activists and forest gardeners at Glencree.
Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr Tommy Annesley, stated: “We are thrilled to host such a diversity of events to celebrate Biodiversity Week. We are committed to protecting and enhancing our environment, we look forward to welcoming community members on this journey.”
Chief Executive, Emer O’Gorman, added: “We are looking forward to holding these events that will allow us to connect with the diversity of life in Wicklow. Just as the days are getting warmer, it’s the perfect time to learn more about the biodiversity around us”.
Wicklow Events include:
- Sustainable Gardening at Ballyraine Campus – Sunday, May 21st from 10:30 pm to 1 pm-
- Barn Owl talk at Baltinglass Library – Tuesday, May 23rd from 6:30 to 8 pm
- Marine Eco Field Trip at The Harbour, Wicklow Town – Thursday, May 25th from 6 pm to 8 pm
- Dragonfly and Damselfly workshop at the Education Centre, Glendalough – Saturday, May 27th from 10 am to 3 pm
- Hedge Bothering at Kindlestown Woods – Sunday, May 28th from 10 am to 12 noon
- Chats about a world on Fire at Glencree Centre – Sunday, May 28th from 7 pm to 8:30 pm
