Surveys and Steps: Wicklow County Council Shares Cliff Walk Technical Update

Wicklow County Council has provided an update on the Bray to Greystones Cliff Walk following a project committee meeting held on 22nd April. While the path remains closed due to significant safety risks, several technical and administrative milestones have been reached:

  • Surveys & Assessments: Ecological site assessments are underway to scope survey locations, and a recent drone survey has been completed to evaluate the impact of storm damage.
  • Engineering & Access: A technical report on the proposal to install steps from North Beach to the Cliff Walk is currently under review by the Council. Meanwhile, the procurement process is underway to appoint contractors for detailed slope investigations on the Bray side.
  • Greystones Rerouting: Negotiations with landowners on the Greystones side are “progressing at pace” to facilitate a viable rerouting of the trail.

Committee Chairperson, Councillor Erika Doyle, emphasised that while the timeline is subject to strict environmental and procurement constraints, the committee remains united in its aim to reopen the walk safely.

Wicklow County Council remains committed to progressing with the project in a diligent, safe and environmentally sound manner and in the shortest possible timeframe.

The Cliff Walk remains closed due to significant safety concerns. An alternative route is available; you can learn more here.
