The National Transport Authority (NTA), in partnership with Wicklow County Council and Wicklow Sports & Recreation Partnership (WSRP), announced details of Bike Week 2026, which will take place from Saturday, 9th May to Sunday, 17th May.
A diverse and exciting programme of events is planned across County Wicklow, with the much-anticipated Wicklow Town Bike Week Festival returning on Thursday, 14th May. The festival will feature a pop-up street velodrome, giving people of all ages the chance to hop on a bike and give it a go. Events will also take place right across the county, including a unique “Pamper and Pedal” experience in Blessington, where participants can enjoy a cycle along the Blessington Greenway followed by a relaxing sauna and jacuzzi session. Best of all, all events are free, making Bike Week accessible to everyone.
Bike Week is a nationwide celebration of cycling, promoting its many benefits for health, wellbeing, and sustainable transport. Hundreds of family-friendly events, including heritage cycles, training sessions, and skills workshops, will take place across the country throughout the week.
All 31 local authority areas are involved in Bike Week, with events delivered through collaboration between local authorities and Local Sports Partnerships.
Speaking on the programme, Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr. Melanie Corrigan said, “Bike Week is a fantastic opportunity for communities across the county to come together, get active, and enjoy the outdoors.”
Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council, Emer O’Gorman, added, “We are delighted to support Bike Week once again in Wicklow. Initiatives like this play a key role in promoting sustainable travel, improving public health, and enhancing quality of life for our communities.”
Wicklow County Council Director of Services, Theresa O’Brien, commented, “Bike Week highlights the continued investment and focus on active travel infrastructure in Wicklow. These events help build confidence and encourage more people to choose cycling as a safe and enjoyable option for everyday journeys.”
National Transport Authority CEO, Anne Shaw, emphasised the importance of the week, saying, “The engagement with Bike Week from all the local authorities has again far exceeded expectations. It’s fantastic to see so many events taking place all around the country. There really is something for everyone this year, and I would encourage everybody to get involved.”
Aisling Hubbard, Coordinator with Wicklow Sports & Recreation Partnership, said, “We’re really happy to bring the Bike Week Festival back to Wicklow Town for a second year. It was really well received last year, and we’re hoping even more people will come down and join us this time around. Alongside that, we have a great mix of events happening across the county, so there’s something for everyone. The fact that everything is free makes it a great opportunity for people to get involved and enjoy cycling.”
