Construction work has been ongoing on the scheme since the update and we are happy to say that significant progress has been made and a considerable amount of the works packages have been substantially completed.
Irish Rail Bridge
- Due to the lowering of the River Bed, the foundations of the Irish rail bridge needed stabilisation.
- Works scheduled to be completed by Christmas.
Note: this work is undertaken and managed by Irish Rail.
Ravenswell Road
- The Flood defences are now in place along Ravenswell Road.
- The remaining works consist of hard/soft landscaping and a general regrade of the ground profile.
- The design is now complete for the landscape finish along Ravenswell Road and this is to go out to tender in October however works cannot start until works to the Irish Rail Bridge is complete.
Seapoint Court
- Seapoint Court flood defence works are now completed.
- The area has been handed back to the council.
- Additional fencing is now required at the Seapoint Court apartment (this is also including minor landscape remediation work).
- An ESB diversion is also to take place to the east end (back to the original) as soon as the Irish Rail works are complete.
Lower Dargle Road
- The flood defence works are completed.
- The boardwalk will be completed in 2 weeks.
- Regrading work and landscaping to be completed by November.
- The Peoples park wall is complete.
- A maintenance entrance is to be constructed to the west end of the Peoples park, this will be completed by the end of November.
Maltings, Glenwood and Killarney Glen
- The flood defence works are completed in these areas.
- Possible remediation works are required to fish pass on the swan stream by IFI. This work will take place over the next 2-3 weeks.
Coburg wall and Embankment
- The flood defence works are completed in this area.
Slang
- The flood defence works in the slang is complete.
- Material will continue to be exported from the slang for the next 6-8 Months.
La Vallee
- All the flood defence works are completed both on the right hand bank and the left hand bank in this area.
Note: An embankment slip just upstream from this area has caused the necessity for emergency stabilisation work on this bank, this work is now underway and will be completed for the end of November.
Silverbridge
- TII will complete stabilisation work for the LHB to protect the N11.
- This work is to be completed by Christmas.
Note: there is a number of areas which are not stable at the moment, the OPW has requested for these areas to be monitored during the winter period and an evaluation be made early next year on the area. This work was never considered during planning stage and is not part of the River Dargle scheme.
