Bray Charities Sea Swim takes place in Sunday, January 1st 2017 12.00 noon – 34 years going strong.
Announcing the Bray Charities Sea Swim for 2017 Bray Lions Club president Jerry Teehan said this remarkable event has over the last 33 years raised €313,488 for many local worthy causes. It is wonderful to have it as the first event in the year in which we will celebrate 30 years of Lions in Bray.
Charities which have benefited from the swim over the years have included Sunbeam House, the Bray Women’s Refuge, Bray Cancer Support Group, Bray Old Folks Association, Bray Meals on Wheels, Guide Dogs for the Blind, St Catherine’s Special School, St. Columcille’s Hospital, Cystic Fibrosis, Bray Fassaroe Community Centre, the Order of Malta, Bray Old Folks Association on Boghall Road, the ISPCC, Bray Marino Clinic, St. Columcille’s Hospital CAT Scan appeal, Bray Children In Need, Bray Orchard Retirement Home, Bray Lions Club, the Carer’s Association, Bray Caring for Carers, Bray Lincara Day Care Centre, Bray Soroptimists Club, Open Door Bray, Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Bray, Bray Poor Relief Fund, Hi Rez Youth Club and Bray Sa Bhaile Homeless Project, WH Five Loaves Homeless, Bray Cardiac First Responders, Bray Stroke Club, Bray Enable Ireland, Bray Lion’s Senior Citizen Fund, Bray Lions Carer’s Fund.
Founder and event organiser John McEvoy said the success of the swim is based on the generosity of the many thousands of swimmers who have taken part down the years. With many of the swimmers turning out in fancy dress, this is always a very enjoyable and colourful event , said John, and they love the challenge.
Out of the many deserving charities, Bray Charities Sea Swim has decided to choose four and this year we have chosen as our charities for 2017:

● WH 5 Loaves, Bray
● Order of Malta, Bray
● Bray Lions Senior Citizens/Carer’s Fund
All funds raised go 100% to the charities. There are NO costs deducted.
Bray Lions Club members pay all the running costs.
Dr Brendan Cuddihy of Wicklow Hospice encourages as many people as possible to take part in this important and long established fundraising event.
