Bray Municipal District hosts Civic Reception for former Chair of Bray Tidy Towns

A Cathaoirleach’s Reception was hosted by the members of Bray Municipal District on Monday last (December, 12th 2022) in honour of Mimi Megannety, former Chair of Bray Tidy Towns. The reception marks her commitment and leadership over 10 years of being involved with Bray Tidy Towns.

During this time under Mimi’s stewardship, Bray Tidy Towns has gone from strength to strength. Not only have they continually scored well in the National Tidy Towns Competitions and the County Council Awards, but they have become a champion for the environment and for addressing climate change on a local level with initiatives such as the paper straw distribution, the conscious cup campaign, clothing swap shops, the refill campaign and various biodiversity initiatives.

Cllr Erika Doyle, Cathaoirleach of Bray Municipal District, stated: “While these projects are easy to list, the value of a volunteer group like Bray Tidy Towns is perhaps more intangible. The connection it offers its members, the sense of engagement with one’s own environment, and the benefits to mental health, these are all present in the work of this group.

“I can’t think of a better example of giving back to the community than Bray Tidy Towns, chaired for over a decade by Mimi. While this reception is for Mimi, I must include Tidy Towns as a whole, firstly because they deserve the recognition, but also because Mimi would insist on it, being a team player and never looking for individual recognition.”

Acknowledging the contribution made by Bray Tidy Towns to the town, the Municipal District Manager, Lorraine Gallagher, said that the achievements of Bray Tidy Towns were outstanding and their success was down to the volunteers who work tirelessly for the community.

She added that Bray Municipal District Members and staff will continue the excellent working relationship with Bray Tidy Towns Committee and its volunteers and look forward to collaborating on many more projects in the future.
