Wicklow Sports and Recreation Partnership have launched its schedule of events for the ‘HER Wicklow, HER Outdoors’ Week – August 8th-14th 2022

Wicklow Sports and Recreation Partnership have launched its schedule of events for the ‘HER Wicklow, HER Outdoors’ week which takes place from Monday, August 8th to Sunday, August 14th.

HER Outdoors week aims to celebrate and encourage more females to get out and enjoy the benefits of being in the outdoors while bringing visibility to the opportunities for women and girls to get involved in outdoor physical activity.

The first ever HER Outdoors Week was held in August 2021 and was a huge success. With over 250 events taking place nationwide and nearly 5,000 females active across seven days. Sport Ireland wants to build on this for the 2022 campaign.

The week will be an opportunity for all females to escape to the outdoors and try something new and Aisling Hubbard, the coordinator of Wicklow sports and recreation partnership, highlighted the array of opportunities that have been organised saying: “There is something for everyone to get involved in from beach volleyball, canoeing, hiking and sea swimming to name a few.”

Michael Nicholson, Director of Services, Wicklow County Council and Chairperson of the Wicklow outdoor recreation committee, emphasised “the many incredible outdoor recreation activities on offer in Wicklow” and praised the HER Outdoors week for delivering on the actions of the ambitious Wicklow Outdoor Recreation Strategy.

Cllr Tommy Annesley, Cathaoirleach, Wicklow County Council, welcomed the spread of activities throughout the county showcasing the wealth of natural resources Wicklow has to offer.
