The Blades and Ocean Colour Scene were announced today as the headline acts for Groove 2016 which takes place on July 2nd and 3rd at Killruddery House, Co Wicklow. Special Guests for the Blades will be Aslan. Tickets priced €49.50 for a day or €74.50 for a weekend pass will go on sale on Thursday 11th February at 9am from www.groovefestival.ie or www.tickets.ie . Once again all tickets are “Come + Go” passes which allow for entry/exit to the site.
Following a hugely successful three years, Groove offers music lovers a feast of great acts over two days at the magnificent location of Killruddery House, just half an hour from Dublin. Groove is considered one of the most family friendly festivals in Ireland with a host of on-site activities for all ages plus the best of Irish and international music.
Groove festival goers spoke and organisers listened and this year for the first time picnics will be allowed on site. A wide selection of food stalls will still be available allowing picnics gives attendees the freedom to choose.
Saturday 2nd July will see their first festival appearance since 2013 and only show o the summer from The Blades. The Blades are icons of Irish music and the organisers are honoured that The Blades have decided to make one of their very few live appearances at Groove.
Sunday 3rd July sees Ocean Colour Scene headline. They are back with a bang for 2016, celebrating the 20th Anniversary of their classic album ‘Moseley Shoals’. The album has sold almost 2 million copies since its release in 1996 and the 20th Anniversary tour has got off to a flying start with sold out shows in Australia and their two outdoor Leeds shows in July, selling all 20,000 tickets in a day. This is the first appearance in Ireland since 2013 and only Leinster show this year.
Aslan join the bill at Groove as special guests to The Blades. It is a rare festival appearance for the band who took their name from the heroic lion in C.S. Lewis’s series of books. Aslan merged from Finglas and Ballymun in the mid 1980s and went on to have massive hit singles with songs such as “This Is”, and “Crazy World”.
Neville Staple from the Specials (aka ‘The Original Rudeboy’) will support Ocean Colour Scene at this year’s festival. Neville is credited with changing the face of popular music in his 35 year career and he continues to be a forerunner of the ska movement and to thrill audiences with his own band. Neville will be performing the best songs of The Specials alongside other ska favourites at Groove.
Further line up announcements along with second stage, activities etc will be announced in the coming weeks.
