Bray Town welcomes County Wicklow’s first Penneys Store

Wicklow County Council and Bray Municipal District today welcomed the announcement that the town of Bray will become home to Penneys first store in the county.

The new store will be based in the recently opened Bray Central Shopping Centre and is expected to open its doors to customers later this year.

It is envisaged that the opening of Penneys will create an increase in economic activity and local employment within the town of Bray.

Cathaoirleach of Bray Municipal District Cllr Erika Doyle stated: “I’m delighted that Penneys has confirmed that they will occupy the anchor unit in Bray Central. The people of Bray have been vocal in their desire to see Penneys in Bray for many years. It’s undoubtedly good news for local employment and will enhance Bray’s retail offering.

“Bray Central will rejuvenate the Main Street and keep people shopping local and this is excellent news for our local economy. I’m also pleased to note the inclusion of the ‘Primark Cares’ range which uses recycled or sustainably sourced materials and aims to reduce the brand’s carbon footprint.”

Mr Brian Gleeson, Chief Executive, Wicklow County Council, said: “I welcome this positive news of Penneys opening their first County Wicklow store in Bray. Penneys is a major contributor to employment in Ireland, and their continued progression in opening new stores brings much-needed footfall back to our towns. I wish to express my congratulations to Oakmount and Penneys in successfully achieving this agreement and to wish Penneys every success when they open their store here in Bray this summer”.

While there are currently a number of units occupied and open for business in Bray Central, other tenants will be commencing their fit-outs in the coming weeks. The shopping centre’s underground car park is also opened with 250 car parking spaces, 16 disabled bays and 10 electric charging bays.

The opening of these new stores and leisure facilities will complement the existing retail offering in Bray and will reinvigorate the shopping experience in Bray both for existing businesses and the public.
