Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr. Aoife Flynn Kennedy, said “The natural, built and cultural heritage of County Wicklow is a valuable asset which contributes enormously to our quality of life and wellbeing. This new plan will help us better manage our heritage into the future and I encourage everyone to get involved.”
Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council, Emer O’Gorman, commented that: “The County Heritage Plan is a road map for how we can protect our heritage and give everyone an opportunity to connect with it in a sustainable way. The plan supports communities, organisations and agencies across the county to engage and collaborate to manage our heritage in practical ways.”
Leonora Earls, Director Of Services for Planning, Economic and Rural Development welcomed the preparation of the new plan stating, “The previous Heritage Plans, co-ordinated by the Heritage Officer, have spearheaded multiple worthwhile projects such as the Wicklow Community Archaeology Project, Wicklow Barn Owl Group, Glendalough Heritage Forum, Wicklow ICAN Communities, The Brittas Bay Biodiversity Project, Historic graveyard recording and the Geological Heritage Audit of County Wicklow. We encourage everyone to take this opportunity to shape the next plan by letting us know your priorities for how we can best protect and celebrate our heritage.”
